Srinagar:  Major fire damaged heavy transmission transfer and transmission lines in apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir early this morning, official sources said.

Meanwhile, major parts of the uptown, including Budshah Nagar, Natipora, Azadbasti and adjoining areas were plunged into darkness since early this morning due to some fault.

Source said fire broke out in grid station at Amargarh, Sopore, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir district of Baramulla this morning.

However, before the fire could be controlled, a heavy transmission transfer and 3300 transmission line was also damaged, disrupting power supply to majority north Kashmir areas.

The cause of fire was not immediately known, they said adding senior officers from the civil administration and Power Development Department (PDD) have reached the grid station.

Meanwhile, majority areas in the uptown are without any electricity since mid-night. However, the PDD officials said that there is some fault and engineers and other workers are on the job.
