Srinagar: Army on Monday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid in Kupwara district of north Kashmir by killing four militants.

An official said that the bid was foiled in Keran sector today mornining. Alert troops gunned down four heavenly armed infiltrators in the frontier district of Kupwara early this morning, official sources said.

They said troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of militants infiltrating in to this side from Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) in Keran Sector early this morning under the cover of darkness.

However, when challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, they said adding troops also retaliated and in the encounter four militants were killed so for.

The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, they said adding the further details are awaited.
