Srinagar: A 67-year-old man today drowned in river Jhelum at Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.
Official sources told UNI that the man, identified as Abdul Ahad Mattoo, slipped into the river, while he was washing his face for morning prayers near Jamia Masjid in Sopore.
Other people present in the area also jumped into the river to save the elderly man. However, they could not save him.
They said a search operation has been launched to fish out the body of the deceased.
