Srinagar: A large number of Sikh devotees on Friday thronged the gurdwaras at Gulshanpora and Saimoh areas to mark 2nd day of Baisakhi festival, which was celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm in the town.

Since Morning, Sikhs offered prayers at several Gurdawaras of Tral amid Kirtans especially in Gulshanpora, Saimoh,  Chatrogam and Hafoo areas , and prepared food at community kitchens for devotees.

The festival has special significance for Sikhs since it marks the day in 1699, when their tenth Guru Gobind Singh organised the order of the Khalsa, a collective body of initiated Sikhs.

Baisakhi marks the first day of spring and the end of wheat harvest in India. Farmers express their gratitude for a good harvest and pray for prosperity in the coming year.

Meanwhile, PDP Youth Leader and PRO Dr Harbaksh Singh of Tral extended their greetings to people on the occasion.
