Srinagar: Light vehicular traffic has been allowed today on the national highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, after more than four months while heavy vehicles will continue to ply from one side.

Only one-way traffic will continue on the historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region. ”We have allowed light vehicles from both sides on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway this morning,” a traffic official said.

However, he said, heavy vehicles will continue to ply from one-side only. He said heavy vehicles, including empty trucks and oil tankers, besides those carrying passengers, left Srinagar and other parts of the valley for Jammu this morning.
