SRINAGAR, MAY 26: A function was held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Thursday to launch a book on the victims of Shopian double rape and murder of 2009. The book was released in Indian-held Kashmir last year.
The book ‘Innocence Outraged’, authored by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader and chairman of Islamic Political Party – Jammu Kashmir Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, sheds light on the gory incident and denial of justice to the family of the victims, Aasiya and Neelofar.
The function was presided over by Firdous Aashiq Awan and the speakers included the Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakariya, Hurriyat AJK leaders Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Shamim Shawl, Abdul Hameed Lone, JKLF-AJK leader Saleem Haroon, Gen (retd) Amjad Shoaib and anchors Samina Waqar, Ali Haider Gilani and Ammara Rabbani.
Speakers on the occasion deplored that Indian men in uniform involved in the rape and murder of Aasiya and Neelofar were not brought to book despite the passing of almost eight years. They appealed to the world community to take cognisance of the crimes against humanity being committed by Indian troops and police personnel in occupied Kashmir.
It is to mention here that Aasiya and Neelofar were abducted by Indian forces’ personnel on the evening of May 29, 2009 and their bodies were recovered from Ranbi Ara Nullah on the next morning.
