SHOPIAN: A civilian was killed during clashes in Ganowpora village of Shopian district of south Kashmir on Tuesday evening. Reports said that forces cordoned off Ganowpora village after inputs about the presence of militants.

However, youth took to streets and clashed with the forces to help the militants escape.

The deceased was identified as Adil Farooq Magray. Reports said that Adil suffered a bullet injury during the clashes, following which he was rushed to District Hospital Shopian where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police Version: 

Meanwhile in a statement issued police said, ” Security forces cordoned off some houses on a specific input regarding the presence of militants at Ganawpora in Shopian district this evening.  During the search operation an unruly mob started heavy stone pelting on the forces and also a brief exchange of fire took place. One person was brought to District Hospital with bullet injury from Ganawpora who subsequently succumbed to his injury. The deceased was later on identified as Adil Farooq Magray of Ganawpora. Search of the area is going on. More details to follow”.
