Srinagar: At least twelve persons were injured when government forces opened fire and resorted pellet firing in Shopian district after an encounter ended between militants and forces.

One of the youth was hit by bullet and another was hit by pellets in eye.

Earlier three Hizb ul Mujahideen militants and two army men soldiers were killed during the encounter in Awneera village of the district.

Intense clashes erupted around the encounter site and many civilians were injured.

Sharing details, BMO Zainpoar PHC, Dr Ab Gani Raina said that twelve civilians were brought to the health facility who were injured.

“One youth was hit by bullet in right his leg while as another youth was hit by pellets in eye and the duo was shifted to Srinagar hospitals for advanced treatment,” he said.

Reports said that forces resorted to aerial firing as they were leaving the encounter site. “Clashes are going in Baopora area,” a local said.
