Srinagar: The national highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was through for traffic after remaining closed for several hours due to landslides caused by road widening.
Light vehicles are allowed to ply from both sides while trucks and other heavy vehicles will ply from Srinagar to Jammu only today, a traffic police official told UNI.
He said traffic was suspended due to landslides caused by road widening near Peerah Chanderkote Ramban last evening.
However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) immediately pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslides.
The highway was put through for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) late in the night, he said, adding that later heavy vehicles, including trucks carrying essentials for Kashmir valley, were allowed from 2330 hrs. (UNI)
