Srinagar, Sept 11: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today announced that minors below the age of 18 years, involved in some activities, would not be treated as criminals.
Talking to reporters at the end of two-day visit to Kashmir valley, Mr Singh said during the security review meeting here he has directed that those below the age of 18 years should not be treated as criminals even if they are involved in some activities due to misguidance.
All these should be treated under juvenile Act of the state and lodged in juvenile homes instead of with criminals in jails, he said.
During the review meeting in which Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was also present, I asked them that these misguided youths should be counselled so that their life is not ruined and they return to national mainstream.
In fact I have told that Chief Minister should review all these cases, he said. Â (UNI)
