Srinagar: In modern day world, a village in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district sans the basic facility of drinking water with village girls and women walking miles to fetch water to quench thirst and to cook food.
According to KNS correspondent Bhat Shamim, the women folk in Sirajpora Ramhal of Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district are still being forced to fetch water from the polluted streams.
The residents while talking to KNS said that the authorities didn’t bother to look into the sufferings of the villagers as they failed to take even measures to provide water to them.
They said that the women folk in the villages including Mir Mohalla, Ganaie Mohalla, Chopan Mohalla and Beg Mohalla here in the wee hours of morning and in the evening hours have to walk miles to fetch water from the muddy stream. “We are being forced to drink muddy water of stream, which usually cause health related issues to the villagers here,” the residents said.
Villagers said that they have been approaching to the higher ups in this regard from past several years but unfortunately nothing has been done to put an end to the sufferings of locals here. “The assurances and the promises made by the government officials so far has proved hoax on the ground as the promises done with the locals here continue to face the sufferings of people,” they said.
The villagers appealed the local administration to take steps to put an immediate end to the sufferings of locals. “We appeal the PHE Minister and Chief Engineer of the department to redress our genuine grievances so that the locals here could feel a sigh of relief,” they demanded.
Exen PHE Handwara, Najeeb Ahmad told KNS that they will look into the matter and the problems being faced by the villagers there will be redressed at earliest.
“The water pressure remains very low and the department has already made steps to increase the water pressure, which would out an end to the sufferings of people in the village,” he said. (KNS)
