Kozhikode, Sept 16 : Renowned journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was assassinated in Bengaluru recently, had paid the price for adopting a bold stand on stressing on secular credentials of the nation, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today said.
While inaugurating the third anniversary celebrations of Malayalam newspaper ‘Suprabhatham’ here, he said it appeared that the ‘gun’ which claimed the lives of activists Kalburgi and Govind Pansare, was used in her killings too.
Stating that around 40 journalists were killed in the country since 1992, he said the ‘forces of darkness’ who cannot subscribe to secular credentials were attempting to take on ideologies with weapons.
‘These forces were also threatening those people who adopted progressive ideologies,’ the Chief Minister said.
On Rohingyan refugee issue, he said a section of media had taken stand of favouring them, without analysing the facts. (UNI)
