Varanasi, Sept 27 :  Banaras Hindu University (BHU) chief Professor P N Singh has resigned taking ‘moral responsibility’ for the recent violence on campus.
Mr Singh had tendered his resignation last night which was immediately accepted by vice-chancellor G C Tripathi, university officials here today confirmed.
The resignation comes after the Divisional Commissioner probe report said that the BHU authorities were solely responsible for the incident.
The varsity had already announced a judicial probe, headed by a retired High Court judge into the incident but it was yet to commence.
There are reports that now axe may fall on the BHU VC as the students and political parties have enhanced their agitation for his removal. (UNI)
