SRINAGAR: Police on Monday used force to disperse protesters, mostly women, demonstrating against unabated braid-chopping incidents in the Kashmir valley.

sources said that police resorted to teargas shelling and cane-charge to break up protests in Batmaloo.

He said that protesters, mostly women, were heading towards the main chowk Batmaloo when cops resorted to teargas shelling and cane-charge to disperse them.

The protesters were shouting slogans against the government while demanding the arrest of culprits.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a shutdown today against the unabated braid-chopping incidents in the Valley, calling them as an attack on the “dignity of women”.

Authorities have imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar city to prevent protests against the braid-chopping.
