Srinagar, Oct 13: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militant, who carried out a grenade attack on Minister for Public Works Naeem Akhtar’s motorcade at Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
Three civilians were killed and 29 others, including seven CRPF jawans and two policemen, were injured when militants hurled a grenade at the motorcade of Mr Akhtar near Tral bus stand in Pulwama on September 21.
Official sources told UNI that following specific information about presence of militants at village Naristan in Tral, a joint operation was launched by Special Operation Group (SOG) of state police, Army and CRPF.
During the operation, they said a militant, who was later identified as Gulzar Ahmad Dar a member of JeM, was arrested along with arms and ammunition.
“Dar, during questioning, confessed to have hurled a grenade at the motorcade of the Minister,” they said.
