SRINAGAR:  Authorities on Friday disallowed congregational prayers for the third consecutive week at historic Jamia Masjid in Downtown Srinagar by imposing restrictions in the area.

Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who addressed the faithful at the mosque every Friday continued to remain under house arrest.

Restrictions were imposed in Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R.Gunj, Safa Kadal, Maisuma and Kralkhud areas of Downtown Srinagar “as a prohibitory measure”.

Disallowing of prayers, the Mirwaiz said, was “an assault” on the people of Kashmir.
