Munger, Oct 23 : At least five Chhath devotees were killed and several others injured when an express train ran over them near Adalpur Amari halt on Kiul-Jamalpur section of East Central railway today.

Jamalpur Police Superintendent (Rail) Shankar Jha said here that Chhath devotees were crossing tracks to catch Bukhari Down DMU at the halt when they were run over by UP Bhagalpur-Danapur Intercity Express.
He said that Chhath devotees were going to Ganga Ghat to collect Ganga water here when they were run over by the train.
Mr Jha said that the mishap took place when Chhath devotees could not see the express train due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
The injured women had been admitted to Munger Sadar Hospital.
