Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday said that the State Police should conduct themselves differently from militants while discharging their duty.
Mehbooba said that militants are attacking policemen and PDP workers but police should exert maximum restrain while dealing with militancy related cases.
Addressing a function at Basic Recruitment Training Course in Manigam, Ganderbal, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said, “Police is a law abiding forces but militants are not. Militants target police men and PDP workers and ransack their house. However, police has a responsibility and should not act in the same manner.”
South Kashmir has witnessed number of attacks since last week on the houses of people who are associated with the ruling PDP or the mainstream political parties.
Mehbooba asserted that it is easy to kill militants but not militancy.
“If militancy has to be wiped out from Kashmir, we have to win hearts of people,” Mehbooba said.
Commenting about the unabated incidents of braid chopping in the Valley, Mehooba said, “Braid chopping is a challenge for police as it remains to see how deep police would go with investigation.”
Over 120 incidents of braid chopping have been reported across Kashmir valley in last two months and the state police is yet to make any arrests.
