Ganderbal, Nov 13: In order to boost the livelihood of fishermen, department of Fisheries Ganderbal provided bicycles among the 40 registered fishermen of different areas of Ganderbal District here today. 

In this regard, a function was held in premises of Mini Secretariat, DC office complex Ganderbal, where District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Dr. Piyush Singla and Assistant Director Fisheries  Ganderbal, Manzoor Samoon distributed bicycles among the 40 beneficiaries, covered under the centrally sponsored scheme, Blue Revolution.

On the occasion, DDC said that this scheme was aimed to facilitate better post harvesting handling and help fishermen widen their area of marketing.

“All the registered fishermen will be covered under this Blue Revolution scheme to help them better marketing to boost the trade and to improve their livelihood,” AD Fisheries said.

He said that department was providing other schemes including monetary help for the construction of their houses to the fishermen. In addition to this the department also provides Nylon twine to fabricate their nets, financial assistance for construction of trout and carp fish pounds to uplift this community.
