Kupwara, Jan 30: Authorities on Tuesday suspended the traffic movement on only surface link connecting border town Karnah with Kupwara headquarters following snowfall late last evening.

The snowfall continues in upper reaches of the frontier district while rains lashed the plains today morning.

At least six inch snow had accumulated near high altitude Sadhna pass till 9 PM, yesterday on the 75-Kms long road, offcials said.

“It is still snowing at Sadhna pass and the traffic movement has been suspended on the road as a precautionary measure,” Khalid Jahangir, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, told.

“Traffic movement will be allowed at the high altitude road only after a good improvement in weather. Traffic is plying on all major roads in the district and electricity is supplied as per the schedule,” he added.

However, the snowfall led to slippery conditions on the roads in Lolab valley of the district causing a slowdown in traffic movement.

Lolab received a few inches snow today morning before the snowfall stopped.
