Srinagar, Feb 1 : Violence in the month of January 2018 witnessed a surge as compared to 2017 during the same period in the Kashmir valley, where four youths shun the path of militancy and returned to their homes.

This year the number of security forces and civilian death witnessed major increase while the militant killing was almost same as compared to last year in the month of January.

Against three civilian deaths, six civilians lost their lives in the violence, official sources told UNI.

They said nine security force and state police personnel were killed and 11 others were wounded in militant attacks in the first month of this year against nil last year.

Five CRPF personnel were killed in a fidayeen attack on the first day of January in Pulwama in south Kashmir.
