Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that propaganda that all Kashmiris are terrorists and stone pelters will drive young Kashmiris further away from the national mainstream.
Mr Abdullah, who is working president of the main opposition National Conference (NC) in the state, where PDP-BJP are in coalition, was reacting to reports that four students from Agriculture University were detained and one arrested when they were travelling in Bhopal-Delhi train.
Taking to micro-blogging site twitter Mr Abdullah said “ Students from our premier Agriculture University are detained & one is arrested. It seems one of their fellow passengers didn’t like traveling with a group of Kashmiris”.
He further said “This hyper-nationalism built around the propaganda that all Kashmiris are terrorists & stone pelters will drive young Kashmiris further away from the national mainstream”.
“ It’s these sorts of things that @HMOIndia and the interlocutor need to put an end to before the state Govt puts money in the budget for “Bharat darshans”, Mr Abdullah further tweeted.
A tweet by some students said” Kashmiri students in Bpl-Del train first questioned by a woman “why #Kashmiris were traveling in large group,” clicks photograph of their 5kg gas cylinder in luggage & tweets it with caption “Dozens of Kashmiris carrying a bomb in Delhi-bound Bhopal train.” Police arrests them.
“ Student says, “we all were paraded and photographed. The police after questioning, detained one of our fellow student and lodged him at Habibgunj Police Station.” @MehboobaMufti @parawahid @HMOIndia”, the tweet further said.
