Islamabad, Feb 14 : Pakistan has called for expansion in the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) for stability and responding to the existing threats in the region.

Addressing the Special Committee on Peacekeeping at the United Nations, Pakistan’s Ambassador to UN, Dr Maleeha Lodhi said that the UN Mission, UNMOGIP is a critical factor to counter the rising threats to peace and security in the region.

Reiterating Pakistan’s unflinching support to UN peacekeeping, both as one of its largest and consistent contributors and also as host of one of the UN’s oldest peacekeeping missions, Ms Lodhi emphasised the need to address the root causes of conflict to bring about lasting peace, a report published in Radio Pakistan said on Wednesday.
