Patna, Feb 28 : The suspended BJP leader Manoj Baitha facing accusation of mowing down nine children surrendered before the police in Muzaffarpur late last night.
Muzaffarpur senior police superintendent Vivek Kumar said that Mr Baitha surrendered in his office.
He said that BJP leader, who had sustained serious injuries in the road mishap in which nine children were killed last Saturday was first treated at Muzaffarpur Sadar Hospital before he was shifted to Patna Medical College and Hospital.
Mr Baitha, was allegedly driving while drunk, when his SUV crashed into a group of children killing nine children and leaving nearly 20 others injured.
The mishap took place when Mr Baitha had sped up his vehicle after hitting a woman.
The children were students of a primary school at Dharampur under Meenapur police station area in Muzaffarpur district. They were returning to their residences after their classes were over.
The police registered an FIR against Baitha on the complaint of a local who lost his granddaughter in the incident. The BJP suspended Baitha on Monday, after first denying he belonged to the party.
