Srinagar: Making steady improvement in the ranking and climbing up, Jammu and Kashmir’s maiden lady Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has made it to the list of most powerful Indian at 26th rank with PM Narendra Modi topping the list.
Stepping into the giant shoes of her late father and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, and despite at one time when it looked she is being dominated by an overpowering BJP in a coalition government, she has made strong comeback and proved she is no pushover. She got the Centre to agree to amnesty to over 8,000 youth named in stone-pelting cases and sees the appointment of interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma as a political victory.
To add to her power punching skills, she recently sacked powerful Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu, in what was seen as a strong signal to all her opponents .
Her Political rival ad former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also features in the list but is 46 places behind here ranked at 72 Rank. His is the most potent voice against the PDP-BJP government in the state. Omar is also believed to have played an important role in father Farooq Abdullah’s return as MP from the prestigious Srinagar seat last year. His strong social media following ensures he is heard on all important debates.
While talking to the Kashmir News Bureau, Inaam un Nabi, political analyst states – “India is currently a country of 132 crore people which means huge population and getting the list of hundred powerful Indians would have been a herculean task .Now as we go through the list first women Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti is ranked 26 , congrats to her. But being powerful is one thing and bringing the right change is another .We hope she translates her power into action and delivers Justice to browbeaten Kashmiris and makes a mark.”
Certainly, a sense of optimism is in the air with State Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti featuring among 100 powerful Indians.
