Srinagar,27 apr : Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that the students were forced to take to streets in Kashmir due to denial of space where they could express their opinion freely.

โ€œNo space given to students to express their opinion or register protest in a democratic and peaceful manner as all student bodies and forums stand banned by authorities,โ€ said Mirwaiz, in a tweet.

He called on the government to reconsider its policy of โ€œrepressionโ€.

โ€œGovt should realize the futility of repression as a policy and allow student forums and ….activism so that students donโ€™t need to come on roads to be heard!โ€ he said.

Kashmir has witnessed massive protest demonstrations by the students during this month over killings of civilians in forcesโ€™ action and gangrape-and-murder of a minor girl in Kathua.

Dozens of students were injured after they clashed with the government forces.
