Srinagar, Feb 16: The ”Sunday Market” in the heart of Srinagar remained closed for the second successive week on Sunday.

The market, which attracts thousands of  customers from different parts of the valley besides tourists, was closed. Hundreds of vendors who had

reached there could not set up their stalls.

”We were asked by police not to put up our stalls today”, the vendors said adding they are leaving for their homes now.

On February 9, the three-km-long  market from Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) to Hari Singh High Street (HSHS), including Lal Chowk was closed on

the death anniversary of Afzal Guru, who was hanged in Delhi’s Tihar jail for Parliament attack in  this day in 2013.

The vendors of the market were first to put up their stalls when life remained crippled for about four months since August 5, after the Centre

scrapped Article 370 and 35 A, besides dividing the state into two Union Territories (UTs). (UNI)
