People's Conference Chairman Sajad Lone, has been placed under house arrest by the government on Martyrs' Day, observed in Kashmir on July 13, he said.

"For no reason informed of being under house arrest. I really fail to understand what the administration gets in stopping people from going to the martyrs' graveyard," Lone said in apost on "X".

He said that People have a right to choose their heroes and the martyrs are heroes for the people of Kashmir."

He criticized the interference of a non-resident government in local matters, calling it an act of despotism.

"Why be in denial and why on earth would a non-resident government need to meddle in it?" he questioned.

Lone argued that a government's attempt to dictate historical narratives and designate heroes is a clear sign of authoritarianism. "Actually believing that a government will decide on what has been historically heroic and who are the historical heroes is an unambiguous sign of despotism," the post on "X" added. (KNS)
