Srinagar: Violent protests have erupted at the Islamic University of science and technology (IUST) campus in south Kashmir’s Pulwama against the killing of three alleged militants in an encounter in this capital city.

Witnesses told that scores of students staged a demonstration this morning when news spread in the campus that three alleged militants have been killed by government forces in an encounter in Srinagar’s Fateh Kadal locality.

Chanting slogans, the protesting students assembled on the highway. However, the government forces deployed there resorted to baton charge and fired tear gas canisters.

“This led to the outbreak of fierce clashes. Many students are holed up inside the campus due to ongoing clashes,” witnesses said.
